A shopping centre's visitor count is the number every other decision leans on. Leasing teams use it to price space, operations teams use it to roster security and cleaning, and asset owners use it to compare centres across a portfolio. If the count is patchy, every one of those decisions is built on a guess.
Count every way in, not just the main doors
Most Australian centres have more entrances than their counting systems cover. Car park lifts, travelators, food court side doors and links to transport hubs often carry a large share of visitors, yet they are left out because older counters were hard to install there.
A complete count covers every door, car park link and travelator, each with its own counting model checked against manual counts before go-live. Counting by direction means each visitor is counted once on the way in, and entries are not double counted when people move between levels.
Count by level and zone
A centre-wide total hides the detail leasing teams need. Counting by level and zone shows how many visitors reach the upper levels, the food court or a new wing, so you can show tenants the traffic past their door and see where a layout change is working.
Compare like with like
Visitor numbers move with school holidays, public holidays, weather and events. Comparing this Saturday with the same Saturday last year, or with a matched set of trading days, shows real change rather than normal seasonal swings. Pulse Analytics keeps this history so every report has a fair baseline.
Use the cameras you already have
Many centres already run large CCTV networks. Our counting software can run on a CPU server inside your network, using the existing cameras. Nothing about the cameras changes, and video is processed and discarded on site. Where there is no suitable camera, a Count Pod AI Sensor mounts overhead and does the same job.
Keep it private
Counting does not need to know anything about a person. Our software counts movement and direction only. No faces are identified, no video is stored, and no personal information leaves the site.
Get the data to the people who use it
Counts are most useful next to the numbers they explain. Pulse Analytics dashboards show visitors by entrance, level and hour, and the data can go into your own data warehouse by API or CDC replication in 15-minute intervals, alongside tenant sales.
Questions centre managers ask
Can you count every entrance and level? Yes. Every door, car park link and travelator, each checked against manual counts.
Can we see live occupancy? Yes. Live occupancy by zone, with capacity alerts to operations.
Do you work in Australia? Yes. We work with shopping centres across Australia and New Zealand, with installation, calibration and support from our own team.
